I think you should definitely get your rent back....some compensation for time and money spent would be nice too but I think even getting your rent back is going to be difficult. What I don't understand is if this has happened before why have they still done nothing about it and yet continued to increase your rents. Maybe if everyone form the allotments gets together you might get some justice!!

I do like Sue's idea of presenting your crops to the council...sod cooking them though....give them some fruit instead!!

Let us know how you get on...oh and does this mean you have no celeriac again??allotments4youhttp://www.allotments4you.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8385309188349657993.post-49323247950846594152012-07-29T22:57:31.926+01:002012-07-29T22:57:31.926+01:00Hi Linda. As you are aware, from your part of town, the City of Edinburgh Council has been engaged in a flood prevention scheme that stretches from the reservoirs in the Pentland Hills to the Firth of Forth. You've got your Cannonmills works and we've had the Inch Park works. Since they have been carried out there is no flooding at the "Savacentre" shopping centre. We are just upstream from Inch. I don't think the works have made our situation worse - but it hasn't improved it. Given the millions of pounds of public money spent, the lack of improvement is... disappointing. Also given the Council's policy of increasing the allotment rent from £30 to £100 in 7 years they can no longer get away with treating allotment holders like 2nd class citizens.Mal's Allotmenthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12349857165496487250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8385309188349657993.post-25751897225988626852012-07-29T22:41:42.494+01:002012-07-29T22:41:42.494+01:00Thanks Kelli. The Council have a well funded legal department which they use whenever any Council Tax Payers make a claim against them. I don't think there is any provision for flood compensation but I believe there is legislation (Consumer Protection Act 1987 policed by the Office of Fair Trading - the OFT) and in addition in Scotland a special Land Court to judge on disputes on "agricultural land" between landlords and tennants...Mal's Allotmenthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12349857165496487250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8385309188349657993.post-68506760650998673512012-07-28T22:35:09.754+01:002012-07-28T22:35:09.754+01:00Commiserations, that is 100% grim.
