Edinburgh Snow

It's still here:

Remember that picture of the Castle I posted last week. Well here's how it looked on Thursday:

But this is an allotment blog, so here's the plot today (the view from the end). The brassica netting is well and truly buried. Those two black sticks in the foreground are signposting the jerusalem artichokes. Now I wish I'd dug up all the carrots and a few more parsnips. The forecast says less snow but cold temperatures. Maybe until Christmas...

Here's a slightly different angle. Not much to see but snow!

This sight made me laugh. If you look closely you can see the day by day accumulation on the roof. You can't see much of the wheels.  A lot of people have been digging their cars out today, Saturday, as there were no new falls, it's the weekend and the temperature has gone up above zero for the day. (Now back sub zero.) Half the houses in our street have lost their gutters, brought down by the melting snow falling off roofs and taking them with it.  Ours are still there, but so is the snow. It's only a matter of time unfortunately.

  1. Maybe the snow will have insulated the ground and you'll be able to dig up your stuff. Maybe.
Reckon your guttering will be ok, if not it comes in handy for sowing peas!

  2. p.s. Just found your question re. the birdscarer. The wigwams were supports for my runner beans. If you scroll back to my post Memories Are Made of This you might be able to spot the hawk.

  3. Nooo, not the brassica netting! Once it gets to taht stage there's nothing to be done, I suppose. I'll post a photo of what I find at the plot tomorrow.

Great shot of the Smart car.

  4. That is definitely the smallest car I have ever seen. I keep trying to tell my son who is stationed in Germany that snow is pretty--he isn't going for it, lol.

  5. That's the first time I've ever looked properly at a Smart car, not sure how I'd fit in it! Hope your guttering hangs on.

  6. At least you have been brave enough to visit your plot Mal - we haven't. We have a thaw at the moment though.

The layering of snow is incredible and although I would easily fit into a Smart car I don't think I would want to in this weather. The comment from workmates when we got our car was - did you buy it to grow in to? Cheek!

  9. Looks so pretty if you don't have to go out in it, or struggle to get to work. Snow is a great insulator of the soil, but I hope you manage to dig at least something for your Christmas dinner!
