At the end of the year

A visit to the plot today confirmed the inevitable   The frost and wind have stopped the beans in their tracks and killed off the courgettes. That's it for this year!

2012 has been the wettest coldest year on record. Despite everything there were some results:

One day in September...

Proud of this one

The label says it all

Beans and sky

A forrest of fennel

Late beans

Barlotti bean pods - but no beans to speak of.

Curly Kale

Leek flowerhead

This year's tomatoes - all of them!

  2. Wow...that cauli is AMAZING!! I didn't even get any to seedling size this year...think I am going to ditch the packet I was using and start with a fresh one next year. It has been a pretty crummy year in all but I think we have all ad some highlights and these are the things we need to focus on to keep our sanity intact!!

2013 is going to be a great year for veg and fruit!!

  3. The particular cauli grew on a patch which was (temporarily) used as a fireplace. It seemed to appreciate the the soil conditions. There might be a lesson there - potash?

I've already christened next year "The sweetcorn year" ... Asking for trouble!

  5. That cauliflower was award winning..so white, full and beautiful!

Don't know if you have anyone in your fam who doesn't eat rice but it makes a good substitute fed into a food processor on grate. Comes out looking just like rice. Then steam in microwave for two minutes. But I love it just as it is especially with a cheese sauce!

Potash..yes, think so too. Keeps bugs away as well, especially caterpillars. Ash is especially good spread under black or red currants against the currant sawfly.

    Beautiful photos.
