Mal, you're not alone, I've had quite a few ugly ones, the lack of rain hasn't helped, a couple of my better ones have split. You've got some nice ones there to make up for it.
The point is that most of them are good! I see the picture on the seed packet next to radishes - they are supposed to look like that, right? I have never seed radishes that look like carrots.
I haven't had a single radish this year...I have sown twice and I am going in for one last ditch attempt to see if it's any better!!
This year my carrots so far have looked like your first picture which is a refreshing change as for the last two years they have looked like your second and third pictures.
I sympathize! I definitely can't grow carrots, they are awful. I might give them one last try some time, if I dig and sieve the soil and remove every last stone, then dig in loads of sand they might like that...might..
Maybe the radishes grew too close to the carrots and became acquainted?

ah, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Comic yes, ugly noooooo. You could even say they were leggy :o)
